Total Precast structures are defined as any structure that’s substantial core & shell consists of precast components, essentially almost entirely inclusive of precast, prestressed concrete. This construction type offers several benefits for all project stakeholders ranging from design flexibility, durability, and schedule & cost savings.
Schedule wise, overall project durations can decrease by up to 25%. This stems from the efficient precast erection process by crane, fewer trades involved in the superstructure, fewer inspections, and allowing other trades to commence their subsequent scopes typically only four to five weeks after erection commencement.
Durability is another key benefit when considering a total precast system. Precast concrete is highly resistant to impact, corrosion, weathering, abrasion, and aging; all of which offer owners long term maintenance & operating cost savings and help promote increased values over other construction types. Additionally, the continuous insulation offers sustainability benefits and contributes to meeting LEED requirements with its ability to store energy and insulate against temperature changes, which contributes to energy savings over time.
